The Passover

I Corinthians 5: 7-8

“For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. Therefore, let us keep the Festival, not with the old yeast, the yeast of malice and wickedness, but with bread without yeast, the bread of sincerity and truth”. I Cor 5:7,8

Passover English word for Hebrew word Pessach – that means passage) = Easter

What do you know about that?
-        It is a historic event in the life of Hebrews people
-        It is a Festival – it means a party that happens not only in one-day but also in many days together with a special banquet.
-          It reported people to what happened in Egypt during the Exodus according to Ex. 12
-          God ordered many things to this celebration. God established / regulations/ rules / commandment / an ordinance
-          First month of the Jewish calendar – the Nissan month – from the 14th. up to 21st. They have to remove the yeast from their houses . they were supposed to eat bread with yeast = unleavened bread.
-          On the 15th. day they have to eat a special banquet   a lamb without defect / no blemish  / bitter herbs and bread without yeast. / they had to take some of the blood and put it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses as a signal.
-          During that night when they were celebrating the Passover angel of the Lord passed thought Egypt and strike down every firstborn. When the angel sees the mark of the blood he would pass over that house.

What are the meanings of those elements?

-        the lamb – represents the sacrifice – the liberty from that /from  the death to the life – Nowadays – Christ is our Passover lamb
-          The bitter herbs – represents the time when they were slaves in Egypt. / all of us were slave in this world living like a slave of the sins / wicked people.
-          the unleavened breads – a new life that God gave them without sins / without malice /

What is the meaning of the Passover for us Christians?

-        Christ  Jesus is our Passover Lamb
-          Let us celebrate the Passover like a memorial for what Christ did in our lives.
