Why is it important to
learn English?
- It is the language of business
- It is the language of technology
- It is the language of science
- It is the language of tourism
- It allows people to communicate about a variety of world issues.
1) What is a text?
A text is a complex entity.
It comprises two main elements:

Page layout
(graphics, diagrams, illustrations, white space, etc).
·
Internal Organization (titles, subtitles, paragraphs, lexical and grammatical reference,
etc).

2) Reading Strategies – is a mental process or something we use to
facilitate reading interpretation (tools to facilitate the reading process):
·
Previous
knowledge (what the reader already knows).
·
Nonverbal
information.
·
Cognates.
·
Context.
·
Internal
text organization.
Summarize
When reading a text in English, you consider some important textual
elements, such as:
1.The text origin.
2.The subject of the text (the broader context)
3.The internal structure of the text that varies
according to the objective of the text ( to make a description, give
instructions, convince the reader of something, tell a story, etc.)
4.The internal organization of the text in terms of the
number of paragraphs, titles, sub-titles, repeated words, lexical reference and
grammatical reference.
5.The internal context, that is, the parts of a sentence
or paragraph that determine the exact meaning of a word used.
6.The order of the words in a sentence and their specific
functions ( adjectives – nouns – verbs – adverbs, etc.)
7.The elements of the non-verbal code.
8.The use of cognates.
9.The point of view used in the text, that is, the angle
of vision from which the text is written.
